DOES PERMANENT MAKEUP LAST FOREVER?

A lot of people ask this question, so here’s the answer…..

The pigments used for permanent makeup differ to that used for body tattoos. Makeup pigments are less concentrated than body tattoo inks which means they will fade gradually over time. So if you do commit to permanent makeup, whether it be eyebrows or eyeliner, you will need to return for top-ups. However, if you decide you don’t want it anymore, it will keep fading until barely visible.

Most people love their permanent makeup and want to keep it looking great!

The rate at which it fades is different for everyone depending on age, skin type, rate of natural cell rejuvenation, some anti-ageing products, pigment removal by the immune system and sun exposure for example. If you want to keep your permanent makeup looking tip top then a top up is usually recommended at 12 – 18 months. Natural looking and lighter eyebrows tend to fade more quickly than a bolder, darker looking brow.

To maintain your eyebrow makeup for as long as possible:

  • Let them heal fully after your treatment, follow the aftercare instructions given to you.

  • Avoid exposure to the sun and sunbeds. Use a sunscreen of at least SPF30

  • Avoid exfoliating products on the eyebrow area.

The pigments used for permanent makeup must be of the highest quality specifically for makeup purposes. If normal inks are used the colour can fade unevenly over time and leave a strange colour, usually a blue or orange tinge! This is because colours are made up of a number of different colours, ie: brown for eyebrows is made up of red, blue and yellow and if one colour fades out more quickly than the others, you are left with a prominent colour.

I only use the best pigments for my makeup which I import from Canada, these fade over time but stay true to colour. A top up between 12-18 months on treatments carried out by Vicki Lane are at a reduced price. See price list.
